Team Arden Foodbank Out and About at Greenbelt Festival

16th October 2024

In August,  Alcester team leader Janet joined Trussell Trust colleagues at the Greenbelt Festival, near Kettering, armed with her tent, wellies & sun cream. Having not volunteered for anything at national level, nor been to a festival before, this was new territory and stepping out of comfort zone stuff! Excited. Nervous. Apprehensive.

Well, Janet had an eye-opening and phenomenal time at the Greenbelt Festival. Some highlights…

Meeting lots of new Trussell Trust friends and seeing old ones – catching up with Marion from Stratford upon Avon Foodbank, plus a peer from school she’d not seen in over 50 years!

Seeing a ‘kerplunk’ style game / art installation called ‘Tangle; Know Our Future’, to represent food security; the cans represent total 11.5 million people trapped in poverty and the sticks are the barriers to change eg. cost of living, insecure work. Pulling out the sticks moves the problems and the more you do, the more people are released from poverty. Brilliant!

Tablecloths in the Trussell Trust tent for visitors to write on and share their thoughts on the theme of ‘Guarantee Our Essentials’

Many insightful and helpful conversations about experiences of poverty and food insecurity

Meeting a monk coming out of a portaloo!

The Corrine Bailey-Rae set – fabulous tunes and atmosphere with full audience participation plus many more amazing musical sets

The mixed weather not taking anything away from a fantastic weekend of collaboration, fun and friendship!
