Arden Foodbank and Waitrose food drive a huge success

23rd March 2025

On 21 March, supported by a social media campaign, Arden Foodbank held a hugely successful food drive with Waitrose in Alcester. A small group of volunteers took it in turns throughout the day to ask shoppers if they would consider adding just one item from our shopping list to their trolley. What an incredible response. The lovely Waitrose customers donated over 450 kilos of food, almost half a tonne. An amazing amount. We also received £95 in cash donations too. We are blown away by people’s generosity. Waitrose for their part, not only invited us into their store for the day, but very generously are donating 55p to Trussell for every kilo we collected, and we in turn, will receive 80% of that.

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped to make the day such a success. To all the shoppers who donated; to Waitrose and to the management and staff of the Alcester store; to the volunteers who gave up their time to greet everyone; and to our warehouse managers who transported all the donations to our warehouse and weighed, dated and stored them. Those donations, that are sufficient to provide over 580 meals, will make a real difference to the lives of local people struggling to even afford the essentials.
