From labels to liberation: Stories of hope from Team Arden at Greenbelt

15th September 2025

Over the August bank holiday, Alcester Team Leader Janet, joined Trussell’s presence at the Greenbelt Festival, connecting with Trussell staff and volunteers from across the UK. Among them was Des, a volunteer from Uttlesford Foodbank in Essex, who shared a remarkable project that captured the emotional journey of their Foodbank visitors.

When people first arrived at Uttlesford Foodbank, many carried invisible burdens—feelings of being lost, unwanted, unseen, or even lazy. These words, written on the dark side of hand-crafted labels, reflected the pain and stigma they felt in those vulnerable moments.

But with compassionate support and access to wider services, these same individuals began to reclaim their sense of self. The brightly coloured reverse of each label told a different story—one of resilience, dignity, and rediscovered hope.

Behind every label is a person. And behind every person is a story far richer than the word.

That’s a brilliant example of grassroots leadership in action. Janet’s involvement at the Greenbelt Festival 2025, held at Boughton House near Kettering, highlights how local leaders like her help build national solidarity around urgent issues like food poverty.

Janet’s presence there not only amplified Arden Foodbank’s voice but also strengthened the network of volunteers working to combat hunger across the UK. It’s the kind of ripple effect that turns local action into national impact.

Well done Janet. Team Arden is very proud of you.
